What is art glass?
Fused Glass
Fused glass art is created with the use of a glass kiln. Compatible glass sheets are cut into pieces and arranged to the artist’s desire. The piece is then placed into the kiln, and heated to a temperature that melts the glass into one uniform piece.
Fused glass possibilities are endless! Bowls, plates, vases, ornaments, and wall art are just a few of the projects you can make using the fused glass technique.
Stained glass
Stained glass art starts with a very similar process as fused glass. The artist creates a pattern, and cuts the shapes out of glass. As opposed to fused glass, there is no need to worry about glass compatibility with stained glass. The artist will then grind down the pieces to be sure they fit tight into the pattern. This is where stained glass begins to differ from fused glass projects. The pieces will need to be foiled and burnished around the edges, and then soldered together. A frame and hangers can be added to the piece so it can be displayed.
